World 5 & 6 Finished!


Keeping up with the momentum of the last update, the levels for worlds 5 and 6 have been completed! 

World 5 Levels Finished

After doing tons of camping in the PNW throughout my life, I wanted to make a world that was forest themed. The houses in this world include a log cabin, tipi, and camping trailer. Periodically, there is a hawk that will dive bomb you!


Crooked Carl Returns

Crooked Carl makes an appearance in world 5 to sell another permanent upgrade, the double jump! This last upgrade is crucial to being able to finish the final two worlds.


World 6 Levels Finished

This world takes place in a rainy city with inspirations from Portland and Seattle. To dial up the difficulty of this world, sometimes the rain will blow sideways, pushing you along with it! This has made for a very fun and frustrating mechanic.


Fast Travel Added

I started noticing that it was a little annoying having to move between the entire world map when wanting to return to previous worlds/levels. To help with this, a world select option has been added to the pause menu to fast travel to worlds that have been unlocked.


Mini Game Hints

While I had added a start word and button indicators to mini games, there were still cases where it was unclear how to play or what the controls were. This gave me the idea to take advantage of the pause menu to give a final place for mini game hints!


Game Jam Version Removed

The game jam version of Suddenly Bird has been taken down from Itch. While I am thankful almost 500 people have tried it out, it does not represent the current state of the game today. That being said, I am really hopeful for a catalog release of the game near the start or first half of 2025. Appreciate your understanding and support!

Bug Fixes/QoL

  • Added rain/snow to asset loader to help with load time.
  • Fixed in issue in the cat and bully mini games where the bird wouldn't display.
  • Adjusted bird timer from 16-20 seconds to 19-22 seconds.
  • Additional level time from default for worlds 4, 5, and 6. UI adjusted to support three-digit timer. The levels for these worlds are longer and I was finding without perfect RNG, more time was needed for a reasonable finish.
  • Fixed issue where world music wouldn't stop when moving to a new scene.
  • Added white fill to bullets from bully mini game.
  • Better address shuffle.

Future

Now that all the platformer levels have been completed, here is the remaining areas of focus:

  • 5-7 additional mini games to round out variety. 
  • Updating world map art (right now it's just grass for every world map).
  • Finish the Bird Gym. This includes coding how to unlock the bird gym as well as updating the art. 
  • Update title screen art.
  • Commissioning cover art and new launch card art.
  • Wrapping paper art.
  • Tons of other bug, quality of life, and other misc items.
